Welcome to the first in a short series of podcasts from the AHSN Network Atrial Fibrillation stroke prevention programme, in this first episode we will be discussing the current state of AF stroke prevention in England, the Public health England and NHS England Cardiovascular disease ambitions which were released in February 2019 and how the NHS Long Term Plan aligns to meet these ambitions.

Professor Gary Ford
Gary is a Consultant Stroke Physician at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Professor of Stroke Medicine at the University of Oxford. He is Chief Executive of the Oxford Academic Health Science Network. He is a member of the National Institute for Health Research Strategy Board and Chair of the European Stroke Organisation Council of Fellows.

Professor Tony Rudd
Tony is Professor of Stroke Medicine at Kings College London and the National Clinical Director for Stroke for NHS England. He runs the stroke programme producing national stroke guidelines and the national audit (SSNAP). His research interests are stroke rehabilitation, organisation of care and quality improvement with over 300 peer reviewed publications.

Dr Matt Kearney
Matt is NHS England’s National Clinical Director for Cardiovascular Disease Prevention and a GP in Shropshire. He has been working for both NHS England and Public Health England since 2013, building programmes to improve primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease.
